Category: Series 5

Series 5 level 1 used a combination of photography and computer generated imagery. Unlike in previous series, the photography used natural colouring rather than modified colouring.

Smirkenorff

Treguard:

"This is the equivalent of what you might call an international departure lounge, and the next flight is leaving shortly."

Smirkenorff sometimes appeared at the beginning of quests to transport dungeoneers to the castle. And as this is right at the beginning, the ride is free. Just guide the dungeoneer into the seat. He flew to and over so many locations that it is impossible to include them all here.

Read an article about Smirkenorff in 'Behind the Scenes'.

Entrance

This was a castle entrance after Smirkenorff's flight, usually containing some clue objects.

Wolfglade

Pickle: "Strange paths, Master. As you say, getting stranger."

This forest was called Wolfglade (part of the Greenwood) and when first it was seen, Brother Mace playing cards there with Sylvester Hands!

Wolfenden

The village on the borders of Wolfglade where Julius Scaramonger usually resides with his stall.

Safehouse (Gateway Inn)

Inside one of the buildings. This picture shows the room with clue objects, but at other times it was used as a dining area.

The Greenwood

A clearing in the woods with Gwendoline the Greenwarden.

Blocker: "PASSWORD"

These rooms would always usually contain some food. The blocker would gradually appear through the wall as it advanced, blocking up the entrance on the left.

The correct password would usually have been gained from someone like Motley or Gwendoline. The correct password would cause the blocker to break up and disappear.

Causeways

This was one of the many causeway puzzles introduced for the first time this series. This one is the 'paper, rock, scissors' puzzle. After you cleared a block, it and adjacent incorrect tiles would drop into the abyss.

Teams were usually killed because their dungeoneer fell off an edge, or because they took too long, causing the tile they were standing on to drop.

Florist

Nothing too dramatic here. This picture shows someone selling flowers which the team buy for Pixel.

The Barns

In this picture, Sly Hands was about to appear.

The Lake

The boat ride was between Knightmare Castle and the forest. The ride was free, as it was used right at the beginning of a quest, but the boatman didn't speak as all as in this series.

Brother Mace was the boatman only once!

Clue Rooms

Many courtyards featured as clue rooms. Some examples: a stony ruin with with some clue objects.

This place had a stairway which the dungeoneer had to go up. Unlike the level 2 clue room of series 1-3, the staircase was not real in the studio; here it was shown through the eyeshield.

Courtyards

There's those stocks again!

Crazed Heifer

The inn, as seen in Series 4.

Miscellaneous

Julius Scaramonger having a snack.

Descender Approach

Brother Mace: "Notice I didn't say lift" as it's something in the future that is placed in the past.

"This device is voice activated, to start it you must say 'down boy' and count 6 steps, then shout stop."

Here is one of the two entrances to the 'Descender'. The number of flights downwards was different almost every time the Descender was used.

The approach was also used as an entrance to Smirkenorff for a flight to level 2. In this instance, the GateMaster has to fight off a Hobgoblin.

The Descender

As it descends, you see double doors, single doors and windows go past. Some doors would have a Frightknight above them, as part of the opposition's trickery. Clues on how many steps to go down might have been earned earlier. One team even missed their stop, went straight into the Corridor of Blades and died instantly!
