A giant ghoulish creature made of bones was a menacing threat. Dungeoneers had to subdue it or avoid it to escape.


The Catacombite was a terrifying beast made of bones. Teams had to subdue it or avoid it to escape.

The creature was sometimes guarding a quest piece or obstructing the safest exit from the chamber.

Teams often needed to subdue it with a spell or a gauntlet.

Knightmare Series 1 Team 6. Richard meets the deadly Catacombite.

Even when the beast was frozen, dungeoneers had to avoid contact or risk life-force damage. This might mean crawling carefully beneath it.

A few teams just cross the width of the room without engaging with the spectre.

The Catacombite falls victim to the first spell cast in Knightmare. Lillith grants a FREEZER spell to a dungeoneer because she is distressed by the creature.

It has no intelligence or self-will but is virtually indestructible and must be neutralised by magic.

Treguard

The catacombite was depicted on the cover of the first Knightmare book.

According to an article in TV Times in 1988, the catacombite was named Eric! It originated as a clay model, filmed frame by frame to create the animation we saw on screen.
