Galley Room

By Keith McDonald

This ornate room with a coronation mural was a regular feature of the second level in Series 7.

This elegant chamber was the setting for various dramatic Level 2 encounters.

Some teams were interrogated by the Brollachan, which appeared in the centre of the wall.

One team purchases a cure for Hordriss from the Apothecary. They summon Hordriss immediately, who turns from green back to his normal colour.

The most memorable encounter is an attempted ambush by Sylvester Hands, who was camouflaged by the large mural.

The team in quest pursuade Hands to drink some extra strong ale. This results in a sing-song of '10 Dead Goblins' before he passes out drunk at a table.

Coronation and capture

The chamber is based on the Sala de la Galera (Galley Room) of the Alcázar of Segovia in Segovia, Spain. The large mural depicts the fifteenth-century coronation of Queen Isabella I of Castile.

The Eye Shield footage from this room leads to the neighbouring Room of Pinecones (Sala de las Pinas), which is named after cone carvings in its ceiling.

Its remarkable stained-glass windows are barely visible in the footage due to ambient darkness. Fittingly, one team proceeds into complete darkness as their quest ends here.
