Team 4: Michael, Ben, Haydn and Ben from Bristol.
The fourth quest of Series 8 was for the Sword and lasted 27 minutes.
Level 1
Brother Strange appears in the snap-dragon tunnels. He asks for a proverb.
The team eventually succeeds with 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions'.
Brother Strange: "That will go on the last page of my book - page 8,493!"
They earn a spyglass in return.
Spyglass: Lord Fear asks Lissard to change the rune lock combinations as dungeoneers keep slipping through. Lissard describes a combination he has in mind.
The Level 1 clue room. The scroll reads: "Keep your eye on the clock". They take an egg-timer and a bar of gold, leaving behind a gauntlet.
A giant Skeletron appears downstage, so they make haste.
Into Fireball Alley. Michael is chased by goblins, but is too quick for them.
The team encounter Stiletta, who fends off the goblins. She tells Michael that he will need to find a charm-seller - Honesty Bartram, Rothberry the Apothecary, or one of the wizards.
Next is the trapdoor room to Level 2, where they find Rothberry looking very upset about something.
Rothberry: "I took a little pick-me-up, and got it a bit wrong. It was a put-me-down."
He cheers up immediately when he sees the gold, and trades them a FLOAT spell.
Rothberry says to open the trapdoor will need two people. He takes a flying potion, leaving the team enough time to cast FLOAT.
He jumps on the trapdoor to open it, and hovers comically as Michael descends to Level 2.
Level 2
Michael arrives in the Level 2 clue room, inside Goth.
The scroll reads: "Warning! Dangerous to those who are not dim!" The clues are: a bottle of Brain Pills, a bat, and a batch of Stinkwort.
Spyglass: A rogue Skeletron is attacking everyone, including the Opposition.
Lissard: "If we cannot mend it or dismantle it then all travel between the Levels 3 and 2 is halted."
Lord Fear proposes a FILLET spell. He sends Lissard to fetch the ingredients - bat's wing, plainberries, and a binding spell.
Lord Fear: "You're going to have to con that out of someone who's good at earth magic. And if you're conning them, they'll have to be stupid. That means... Sidriss!"
The team decide to take bat's wing for the spell. Confused by the warning from the scroll, they opt for the Stinkwort ahead of the Brain Pills.
Next, the Sewers of Goth. Sidriss is being questioned by Snapper-Jack. She is struggling with the final question so the team give her the answer.
In return, Sidriss rows them across the sewer. Michael asks her about the binding spell, which she reveals to be KNOT.
At the end of the episode Majida asks Treguard if the team picked the wrong object in Stinkwort. Treguard taps his nose in a secretive manner.
Into the moving block obstacle, where some plainberries sit on one of the centre platforms.
Michael is chased by Snapper-Jack. The team have directional issues and are fortunate not to be caught.
Snapper-Jack reaches them in the next room and asks three riddles. They get two correct.
Once the room is empty, they create the FILLET spell by placing the ingredients on the floor and spell-casting KNOT.
Into a room with a rune lock puzzle. The team remember the combination from the Level 1 spyglass, but a Troll is approaching.
As they complete the puzzle, the Troll arrives. Michael just manages to escape.
The end of Level 2, where the rogue Skeletron stands guard. The team spell-cast FILLET to dismantle it.
Death
The Troll is still following and they have no further spells to help them through the trapdoor. They ask Treguard for advice, but he refuses.
They head for the door and get blasted by a fireball.
FLOAT spell or no FLOAT spell, there was only one way down to Level 3, and you didn't take it.
Hear from the team
In October 2005, Michael Morgan (some uncertainty over the name) e-mailed in:
I played on the show and Lord Fear killed me with a fireball. I hate Lord Fear - I almost won! He is an embarrassment to nature. I should never have taken that door; we are still regretting it at this very moment.
