Jamie Reed MP

Post by Pooka »

Jamie Reed, he of the "got stuck in Ariadne's Lair unfairly" Series 2 fame, is now an MP - I'm pleased to confirm a Labour MP. He mentions Knightmare on his Twitter feed if you scroll back enough - @jreedmp.
Pooka - púca, puca, pwca, pookah, phooka, phouka, puck...?

For those who haven't looked into this: after taking in quite a number of people, including a well known professional writer, Jamie Reed tweeted that he was never on Knightmare. He was just having a laugh, it seems. I must admit, I saw 'Jamie' and 'spider' and had believed him initially too. More fool me for thinking, even for a moment, that politicians don't make things up and journalists check facts. The next time I catch myself giving Twitter credence, I plan to cover myself in barbecue sauce and wait in Festus' basket.

It turns out that before Brother Mace, there were the Mace Brothers: an American group who recorded songs about Christianity in the 1970s. Some of the songs are on YouTube. I also found this news story from last year about a Coventry woman in a tavern who attacked her brother with a mace. She may well have added "pax vobiscum" to her vocabulary since then.

Looks like this may run and run, like Bob Holness and Baker Street... I'm already wondering if it's earned a place in the urban myths thread! Quite amused by the lesson it teaches, though - don't even joke about being on Knightmare! People so desperately want it to be true, it's not something you can easily take back. :)
