Just on the point, on the last episode of Series 3, I heard Mrs. Grimwold, what I thought was, getting eaten by Festus, was this the cause of her non-appearance in Series 4
Any others?
If the only way is onward how would you get home for tea??
Perhaps Merlin didn't make it to series 5 because it turned out that he didn't get released from the stocks in time (and hence Mogdred, his alter ego, also copped it).

Maybe he didn't regain conciousness from falling out of the tree! (Christmas tree that was)
The Forum Moana and chief honey pot carrier!
"Come and take a gander at this bit of ugliness"
Fatilla: last seen choking after dungeoneer Giles gave him a bottle of Sniff. Could it have proved fatal?
Gundrada once claimed she'd lost her dagger (named Gut) inside a dwarf. And Bumptious the dwarf wasn't seen after Series 2. Could it be that the Sword Mistress brought the miner's dwarf-tunnelling days to an end? [Note: Pendragon speculated on this first: http://www.knightmare.com/forum/http:// ... eadid=1276 ]

Not sure who dies but some characters left for other reasons. Both Skarkill's legs got snapped, Scaramonger sank into a depression and left a broken man, Merlin apparently threw himself back in time along with Mogdred (according to TQ...). I'm sure there are some others.
Of course, I think Festus tried to eat Mrs. G, but she's in the RPG, so I'd like to think she got out of that one somehow. And of course, dead characters can always make a comeback. Somehow.
Hmmm, now, let's see... ignoring any details from each character's final appearance, how about these...
IGNEOUS: his splitting headache was so splitting that his wall collapsed.
SYLVESTER HANDS: was imprisoned for 10 years for burglary but was let out after three weeks with a slap on the wrist and "don't do it again, you naughty boy."
HEGGATTY: found a new career as the voice of the Andrex puppy.
SIDRISS: gained a first in Philosophy, Politics & Economics at Oxford. Oh, wait, that's not right, is it.
BUMPTIOUS: went on strike.
AH WOK: imprisoned by the Chinese Communist Party for displaying capitalist tendencies.
CEDRIC: became the host for the pilot of The Weakest Link, but was dumped for hitting the contestants with his quarterstaff as they took the Walk of Shame.
ELITA: took over from Cedric in the original (and never before broadcast) first series of The Weakest Link, but dumped in favour of Anne Robinson after insulting all the winners, camera crew, production team, chief controller of the BBC...
