Incidental music...
A thought occurs.
Do you think Km was better with or without incidental music (which was first introduced in series 6)?
Also, if the new Km is going to be live, will it be able to have incidental music? Do you think it should?

I can't remember much about series 5 onwards so I'm not sure what you mean though!

Re: Incidental music...
Much better.. much much better. I thought it added to the tension brilliantly well on puzzles such as cuaseways, the trial by spikes, play your cards right.. and made you wonder whether death was imminent or just a high possibility.
Very positive addition to the show indeed. I think the new one should.. and it should be plausible - given the fact that it was used when the dungeoneer started to struggle, whether leading to death or not - so if at all possible, for the harder puzzles and in any pursuits, I imagine it could be plausable to add in incidental music throughout a live gaming session.

Re: Incidental music...
Do you think the teams heard the music?. That would be rather hard as they have to communicate with each other. I suspect it was only added to episodes for our benefit and therefore I dont think its essential or needed. If somehow it was to be heard by the team then that would have a worth while effect as teams may panic or rush into stupid mistakes. Tension music works well in films or video games but in KM I prefer to judge danger for myself rather than be tipped off about an ending or close shave.

^doesnt agree with that^
you have a valid point, however, no amount of knightmares tension building music will make me cack myself while watching teletubbies.
we all judge the onscreen danger ourselves, the music just adds depth and feel.

Oh, I think it was far better with the incidental music, and I hope it might be possible to use it at times in the new KM. I can't imagine something like Play Your Cards Right without the music, really. They used it well to highlight and increase the tension on the deeper levels.

Re: Incidental music...
Even 'back in the day' it was reasonably obvious when a team screwed up. Each room had a purpose which, if missed or not happening at all, spelt a lingering death for the quest. (have a look at some of the old net RPG logs to see what I mean, a couple of teams KNEW they had missed something the second after it happened!)
The music simply heralded the inevitable.
Mind you.... That damn heart-beat had me diving for the sofa every time :o ..........

Me too...
I think it was series 7 where was that music (Barry on the death of spears) and then the goblin hunting horn I remember I had hid behind my big toy tiger and was yelling for mom.... Now that I think about those moments... and I always hid under my blankie at night thinking that if I wasnt asleep the Automatum would come and get me (thats what my mom told me....)

Heh...
Incidental music WAS used earlier than that, you know...
Remember Julie - that little 'tune' that heralded the arrival of all those goblins just REEKED of 'Oooooh, Nasty'.
I know it was also used a few more times as well, but I can't remember where else that little tune was used off the top of my head...or what's left of it, anyway. :-/

WoOOo, I am the floating Skull - bite my shiny cranium!!!
