Tim Child once cited the old spectrum game "Atic Atac" as one of the inspirations for Knightmare, the wellways between levels in particular.

Came across this while looking for another Speccy game called "Skool Daze". Looks like quite a good remake.

Re:Atic Atac
Why play the remake when you can have the original...
...if I could get FUSE to compile (gaaargh...) I'd go and play it right now.

Re:Atic Atac
I loved Atic Atac, and still do, as I play it regularly on me emulator.
I can certainly see where Tim Child got the idea from, and with Dragontorc too.
Great games!

This article about Spectrum games covers Atic Atac (17/21) and mentions Knightmare's connection to it. (It also praises Skool Daze, as referred to above. And Dizzy is in there too.)
As for Dragontorc, it and Atic Atac are linked to Knightmare by the video review that was mentioned in another thread.

Re: Atic Atac
The name rings a bell, and I'm sure I saw it on the 8 bit computers of the 1980s such as the Commodore or Amstrad even.
i used to have a game called Questron about 1984 and it was a bit like Knightmare in a sense where you would go on adventures, and meet people and fierce creatures and have to make important decisions to determine the rest of the game and collect spells and magic potions and near the end you would enter the catacombs and underground dungeons and meet all kinds of nasty things, I spent hours on this at the time.
Unfortunately there was a bug in the game that meant it was impossible to complete the game, you get about 90 per cent of the way through and the game would crash, it was very frustrating, but very much like knightmare if you ever played it back in the day.
