Re: Series 8 Appreciation Week

A few brief thoughts: Also my least favourite series. I'm one of those who feel it was aimed at a younger audience than previous series, though the differences are possibly in tone and style rather than content. I was 13 when it was first broadcast and it was the first time I felt 'maybe I'm getting...

Re: Series 6 Appreciation Week

The best ‘post eyeshield’ series - consistently entertaining, likeable teams and characters, varied quests etc. I only have a few minutes so I’ll focus on the things I don’t like (cos that’s more interesting!). There’s a subtle stylistic shift in this series which makes the visuals particularly unsa...

Re: Knightmare On DVD?

A browse on Amazon reveals that many 80/90s children’s programmes are available on DVD. In fact, it seems that most of the scripted drama/comedy/animation I remember well is available, the majority of which can hardly be called ‘classic’. In this context it does seem odd that KM – a critically accla...

Re: Series 5 Appreciation Week

I like the analysis that S3 was the final version of the drafts that were S1 and S2 with a similar pattern then repeated through S4-6. It does feel as though Tim Child hit the restart button for S4 (such were the stylistic changes) and S5 is very much a refinement and elaboration of those ideas. [As...

Re: Tom Bell (Lord Fear Live) in Wizards vs Aliens

Just spotted Tom Bell in a Burger King advert. He was wowing customers by revealing that a box of six chicken pieces costs only 99p!

At that price I don't think the quality of the meat would do your lifeforce much good...

Re: Series 4 Appreciation Week

See my jumped the shark article! Interestingly, much of what I now hate about S4 I don't think bothered me as a child. I certainly can't remember thinking it had become incredibly repetitive or that the eye shield provided zero zip and sapped the show of energy and momentum. However, with hindsight ...

Re: Knightmare Baby

Drassil Wrote: For a baby to be considered a true Knightmare baby, arguably a grand gesture should be made on Day One. Like, say, secretly cueing up the goblin horn sound on a smartphone and then playing it during the birth. Chris, does your wife check the forum? More seriously, I hope all is going ...

Re: Series 3 Appreciation Week

Ah, series 3. I'm always a bit surprised whenever anyone says they're lukewarm about it because as far as I'm concerned it poos and wees over everything that followed. It's like the archetypal third album where a really exciting, innovative band finally manages to harness all its ingredients to maxi...

Re: Series 1 Appreciation Week

Ah, Series 1. Like the Beatles’ first album it’s not something I’d choose to play in preference to later output but it’s a mightily important piece of work. Brimming with ideas, it introduced much of the lexicon (from ‘side-steps’ to ‘bomb rooms’) – and iconography (the helmet and lifeforce animatio...

Re: Knightmare Geek Week Extended Episode

Hmm, it does seem to be an excuse rather than a well thought out reason. Concern about a particular set of contestants seems a strange definition of inflexibility; they should see some comments about sight spells and the reach wand (and KM was still going strong then)! Points already made aside, the...

Re: Knightmare Geek Week Extended Episode

I would have hoped so too, but I thought you said that networks cited fans' criticism of the geek week episode as a reason for not picking up the show - wasn't such fan criticism largely related to the Youtubers?

Great to see Challenge's Tweet last week about the weekend repeats killing it in the ratings. I wonder if victory in this poll is proving to be of some benefit...?

Re: Knightmare Geek Week Extended Episode

Using Youtubers as a way of drawing attention to a pilot is a great idea. Lots of people have now watched KM who would otherwise never have heard of it. If the pilot worked, people will have fallen for the format and be wanting more - format being the operative word. Surely, as a commissioner, the f...
