Re: Unintended Knightmare references on TV

I've Insobriety, Yet Miaow To Fear. The Dungeon's alcoholic denizens camp out in Fetlock Jungle (yes, it's been reclassified) and must perform animal impressions for the Opposition to earn ale. This year, I'm A Celebrity is foregoing its usual setting in Australia and will take place at a castle. G...

Re: Series 4 - Episode 2

The 30th anniversary today of this episode means the 30th anniversary of Michael Cule's Knightmare debut. That first Brother Mace scene, available here on the ITV Children's Classics YouTube channel, is one of my favourites. Michael has commented: I was bloody terrified at the time that I’d lose it ...

Edmund Dehn in Death of a Hunter (2018 recording)

In 2018, Edmund Dehn (Gumboil, the Giant, Igneous, Automatum, Knightmare Series 1-2) starred in Death of a Hunter, a one-man play about Ernest Hemingway, at the Finborough Theatre in London. Our article about it is here . The play was filmed and is available to watch until 7 October, as part of the ...

Parody of Voyage, Voyage by Desireless

A song about Lord Fear being spied on, for the first time, by Team 1 of Series 5 ("the bee team") - using what Motley had called "the old Norman" in the previous quest. Based on the first verse and chorus of Voyage, Voyage by Desireless (1986). Official video ; Official clip of Knightmare scene Au d...

Re: Series 6 - Episode 7

Apart from the causeway team 4 were good. (Is this becoming a running theme this series:question:) Lead advisor Sarah was particularly enthusiastic. She may have been trying to compensate for not getting to enter the dungeon as planned. It was revealed in the Winter 1992 issue The Quest: Poor Sarah...

Re: Series 6 - Episode 6

Encountered Hordriss in one of his awful disguises. :D They were on the ball tho and accepted his deadly box, but made sure Alan wouldn't open it. Like many other watchers, I was initially fooled into thinking it was Hordriss-as-Harris, but the evidence that it's Lord-Fear-as-Hordriss-as-Harris, as...

Re: Shadow Of The Opposition - free KM gamebook download

James, I recently let Paul Flannery know about Shadow of the Opposition. I'm hoping he might use it (and the other fan-made gamebooks) for his Knightmare Live gamebook playthroughs, to add variety and also to avoid yet another doomed quest through The Labyrinths of Fear... Happy Knightmare Day to ev...

Re: Series 5 - Episode 16

This being her last appearance, we never do find out why Aesandre hates blondes so much. Does she have a dark and traumatic history with a unknown fair-haired figure? Or maybe it has something to do with a certain White Witch? I've always seen it as an in-joke based on Juliet Henry-Massy, who playe...

Re: Unintended Knightmare references in the news

Thanks to Knightmare Live, there's more than one Lord Fear around these days. An article from The Times suggests they will benefit from Brexit in their continental misdeeds: Brexit: European criminals will escape trial, lords fear Predating that was the following Times article from 2014: Lords fear...

Re: Mark Knight to join Knightmare Live this Friday @ 4:30pm

Video of the session (wrongly labelled Mind Pub): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/731111972 I enjoyed the interview with Mark, which yielded some new biographical details and included mentions of the convention and Lord Fear's Midnight Hunt. (Alan, you had the honour of being referred to by name and no...

Re: Series 5 - Episode 16

Here at the end of the series, it becomes ironic that one of the first things we learned about Lord Fear, during his first appearance way back at the beginning of this series, was that he has "an intellect that can freeze rivers".

Knightmare on Absolute Radio (Dave Berry Breakfast Show)

Last week, The Dave Berry Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio ran a competition to win a "90s tech bundle". As part of this, on 27th August they played the Knightmare theme (which they also played on other days), read from Ben Child's 2013 article for The Guardian (How We Made Knightmare) and played th...

Re: Unintended Knightmare references in books

Belatedly for International Gamebook Day, which was on 27th August: The Fighting Fantasy gamebook Dead of Night, published in 1989, has a cover that reminds me of the Knightmare Series 1-5 intro. Fighting Fantasy 40.jpg Dead of Night was the 40th in the series. Perhaps the cover would have been bett...
