It's another Mogdred spell, this time gifted to Stuart's team from Series 2. Again, the team wisely chose not to use Mogdred's magic, even when they had no other option. Ben scores 3 points, bringing his total to 5. Will this be enough to make it through to the second round? Only time will tell!

Torn between a few ideas... I'm gonna risk another answer I'm not 100% sure about. I seem to recall a team in Series 2 getting a spell from Merlin that they didn't need, which I think was called SHIELD.

This time, however, I can't tell you that you're exactly right - it was Series 1, not Series 2... but other than that, spot on! Merlin awarded SHIELD to Richard's team (the last of the series) but they never got an opportunity to use it... or not one that we were allowed to see, anyway!

Congratulations, Rosey - BACKFIRE scores you 2 points and brings your total to 3, seeing you safely through to the next round with Annie and Amy. BACKFIRE was acquired from a scroll by Ben's winning team from Series 6, but they abandoned it on the advice of Greystagg. BACKFIRE is therefore possibly the most pointless spell ever to feature on Knightmare!

FATALLY REJECTED CLUE OBJECTS

Ariadne rather rushed Richard's team into a decision by chasing them out of her lair and they chose the wrong thing - the horn instead of the gold! Gwendoline had given them an obscure clue about bribing their way through to the Gate Tower, but I've never judged them too harshly for failing to take it into account in the heat of the moment. Rosey scores 4 points.

Foolishly, Stuart's team opted to take a dagger (or "knoife", as they prefered to call it) instead of a divining rod in the level 2 clue room, and they soon paid the price. Annie, you also score 4 points.
