I guess it's a union thing. That's one of the main reasons given for not releasing KM on video or DVD.

Kawaii can you elaborate on what the main reason was?

An equity problem?

Confused as always!  ;D

I mean that the actor's union will demand that Granada pay standard royalty fees to all the actors, corresponding to the number of episodes they've appeared in. Hugo Myatt would be paid the most, or course, possibly followed by Clifford Norgate or David Learner.

Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to buy the rights to broadcast a series of Knightmare?

The next week's ratings are out (7th-13th July). I've averaged up the ratings for the evening schedule for Monday 7th to Friday 11th. Figures are, as always, in thousands. (The figure for The Crystal Maze is only based on 4 of these days, since on Friday the schedule is slightly different.)

4pm - Bruce Forsyth's Play Your Cards Right Play Along - 30.62
4.30pm - Family Fortunes Play Along - 44.92
5pm - Fort Boyard - 49.18
6pm - Knightmare - 55.98
6.30pm - Takeshi's Castle - 87.08
7pm - The Crystal Maze - 19.525
8pm - Celebrity TV Bloopers - 22.84
9pm - The Mole - 29.22
10pm - Takeshi's Castle - 34.38

Pretty encouraging, really. The average figure is up from the previous week, and KM rated better than Fort Boyard on every day but one. Its highest rating was on the Thursday (74.8), and the lowest on Tuesday (28.2). If it wasn't for the Tuesday figure (and the ratings for most shows were seriously down that day), the average would be significantly higher (62.925). :D

That's great!

I cant believe challenge are having to think about whether or not to buy another (or all 8) series!

How can results like that be inconclusive?!

And I'm assuming white devil wants to know the cost of buying the rights to broadcast a series of Knightmare because he's.....

a) the director of the BBC
b) the director of ITV who now realises what an IDIOT he was letting Km go off-air in the first place
or
c) A crazy billionnare with more sense than money who wants to buy all the rights and create his own sky freeview 'Knightmare channel'

Ever the optomist  ;D

I solemly promise that when I'm a rockstar I will buy the rights to Knightmare and either produce a DVD (if it hasn't been done of course) or create my own freeview channel.

This is of course after I've built my very own Haunted House   ;)

And I promise to create my own tv channel that will commission Km 9. (If I'm not too busy haunting someone's house, that is ;D)

The next week's ratings are out (14th-20th July). I've averaged up the ratings for the evening schedule for Monday 14th to Friday 18th. Figures are, as always, in thousands. (The figure for The Crystal Maze is only based on 4 of these days, since on Friday the schedule is slightly different.)

4pm - Bruce Forsyth's Play Your Cards Right Play Along - 38.102
4.30pm - Family Fortunes Play Along - 43.586
5pm - Fort Boyard - 65.93
6pm - Knightmare - 54.324
6.30pm - Takeshi's Castle - 62.46
7pm - The Crystal Maze - 18.18
8pm - Celebrity TV Bloopers - 28.002
9pm - The Mole - 30.71
10pm - Takeshi's Castle - 32.848

Not such a good week for Knightmare. I suppose by this point most people have seen Series 3 and 4 already, so the ratings may drop off. However, it remains comfortably ahead of all the other early-prime and late-prime time shows with the obvious exceptions of Fort Boyard and Takeshi's Castle. On the Monday it was the highest rating show in the evening schedule, and on the Saturday (which is not included in these figures) it beat everything else in the prime-time schedule, Fort Boyard and Takeshi's inclusive.

I'd love to hear what other people think about the ratings. If people aren't interested, I won't bother to look into them each week. Obviously I'd be glad if people would be courteous enough to keep this thread on topic.

This new information seems to suggest that despite not commanding audiences as big as the ones Takeshi's Castle and Fort Boyard enjoy, Km still performs very respectably indeed (and it still seems to me that Km is Challenge's third-biggest draw, after TC an FB). The fact that is does consistently well (which the other two aforementioned shows don't seem to, based on what you have said, GG) would seem to imply a dedicated audience, too. Mind you, I guess we already knew that! :)
