The Dunshelm Players: When Five Tribes Go To War

Post by HStorm »

Okay, developments have developed in the land of AP, and it's back to the world of undiluted Knightmare drama - none of the comedies we've been producing by the dustbin-load (which is probably just as well, seeing no one seems to be taking much interest in them). Now available is the first teaser trailer for our next KM play, When Five Tribes Go To War. The play itself should be available from roughly August, but we thought we'd give everyone an early taster of what's on offer.

A couple of details...

This play is set in the same continuity as Famous For Retreating, but, despite what you may have been told in some quarters, it is not a sequel. It's actually set years earlier.

A lot of the lines in the play haven't yet been recorded, and furthermore, some of the recording snippets you hear in the trailer may not be the takes that will be used in the final play. Any thoughts you have on what you hear will be welcome, and it might indeed lead us to using alternative takes.

Another trailer should be available in late-April or May as more recordings come in, with possibly a third one in the final weeks before the play is released.

Go to http://www.kmramdram.co.uk/when5tribesgotowar.htm to get a preview and to download the trailer.

Actually, they have tusks. And segmented eyes.

We have a second trailer for Five Tribes now available to listen to at...

http://dunshelmplayers.wordpress.com/dr ... go-to-war/

Just click on the link marked 'Trailer Two' and it'll take you to the download page. Take this chance to hear something we haven't heard fresh in twenty (count them! Twenty!) years... THE DIABOLICAL LAUGHTER OF MOGDRED!!! (Quick! Someone say, "DUN-DUN DUUUUUUUUNNNNNN!")

And before anyone asks, yes the choice of backing music for the new trailer is a very obvious joke. But it does actually make it sound rather good, so give it a go.

Just a quick update to let everyone know the latest on production of When Five Tribes Go To War. It took a while, but all lines for the play have now been recorded, and mixing is now in 'the home stretch' as it were. The expected release of the play for everyone to download is first week in September - slightly later than the original aim of late summer, but it makes more sense this way anyway, given KM was always a September show.

Small change of plan.

Like Famous For Retreating, Five Tribes will be released in five parts. The first of these parts is already more or less ready to go, so I will finish tidying that up over the Bank Holiday weekend, and it should be available to download from Monday. Subsequent parts will be released one at a time roughly each week from there, and so the whole play should be available from the final week in September.

Hope you're having a happy end to the summer, all. As promised, part one of When Five Tribes Go To War is now available to download from this page...

http://dunshelmplayers.wordpress.com/dr ... go-to-war/

...with part two to follow in the next few days.

I'm not completely sure yet how long the play is at its full length (although I can say with confidence it's a lot longer than Famous For Retreating or Yes, Dungeon Master). This opening episode is roughly twenty-nine minutes long.

Sound quality isn't as high as it was on FFR - still patches of distortion and variable recording rates - although as an effort from our 'made-from-home' selection, it's our cleanest production to date.

Any feedback, please post comments on this thread, on our FB group page (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/gro ... 2715596729), or on the blogpage above; our e-mail is currently out of action until mid-September, so please don't bother trying to contact us that way for the time being.

Watch this space for announcements of subsequent episodes.

Just in case you're wondering whether anyone at all is awaiting the next part eagerly and checking regularly, I can tell you there's at least one person - me.

Sorry it took so long - I was suffering from a case of terminal oh-what's-the-point-in-bothering-itis - but part two is finally available to download from...

http://dunshelmplayers.wordpress.com/dr ... go-to-war/

Part three should be up soon, certainly it shouldn't take anything like another month. (Touch wood.)

And that's it! It's taken approximately four and a half years from earliest concept work to publish of the completed product (and we thought FFR had taken an eternity...) but in this morning's small hours, the fourth and concluding part of When Five Tribes Go To War has been released at...

http://dunshelmplayers.wordpress.com/dr ... go-to-war/

This episode is bang on 28 minutes long (although a large chunk of that is taken up by the closing theme music - called Under The Surface and composed by an American called Seb Morawietz in case anyone cares to know), and the whole play, rather eerily, finishes out at almost exactly two hours in length, give or take half a minute.

I'd like to thank all those who were in the cast, who are listed as follows; -
Treguard………………………………………………………Ruzl Odoni
Malice…………………………………………………Helen Becconsall
Pickle………………………………………………………Andy Marshall
Aedric (Lord Fear)/Fatilla The Hun……………Martin Odoni
Morghanna/Mistress Goody(badwife)………Rosey Collins
Merlin………………………………………………………Matt Richings
Mogdred…………………………………………………Martin Harder
Hordriss the Confuser/Gumboil…………………Jake Collins
Skarkill………………………………………………………Ricky Temple
Sir Hugh de Wittless………………………………………Adam Hall

Further thanks are due to others who helped away from the mics. Acknowledgements therefore go out to Andrew 'Snowcat' Kenny for constructively abusive feedback on sound effects, and to Robin Barlow, Emma Venvell, Sue McPherson, David Forester, Kieran O'Brien, Billy Hicks and Clare Speedie for advice on the script, and/or help with the abortive arrangements for a studio meet-up.

If you have any thoughts or questions about the play, please do get in touch (despite what you might have been told, we won't bite!), either by replying to this thread, by posting to our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... 729&ref=mf), or sending a message to our e-mail address (thedunshelmplayers@tiscali.co.uk).

Looking to the future of the audio plays, there will probably be another skitlet offering at Christmas, but it's unlikely that we will be producing any more material beyond that. We did have plans in place for a number of other projects, but a general lack of interest is taking its toll.

We're hoping to add a 'front cover' picture for the new play, a bit like Bealwit's Moonscape for FFR. Are there any budding artists who'd be interested in drawing up something to suit?
