The Helmet

Post by emros »

Hello

myself and my friend Steve are going to re-create the Helmet.. not the Newest version the Old Skool one.. Now we have been thinking and we think either an Old Beer Keg or a Wooden Tub that u can buy from most garden centres would do for the main bit of the helmet but can anyone help me out with as to where i can get my hands on a pair of horns? or a Beer Keg for that matter! ::)

Prehaps use a safety helmet or similar as your starting point, that's what the real helmets were built around.

Mr Brollchan is right, the original does indeed use a safety helmet, a yellow one if I recall correctly.

They need used foam around the outside of it to give it the shape and then layers of paint of top of that. The ridges are made from string painted gold.

Makes it very light to wear and comfortable too. The newer one is less comfortable for adults as it was made using a childs bike helmet I think. Also unlike the original it's not made of foam.

Also, if your trying to get a decent set of horns for the early HoJ, it wouldn't do any harm to have a word with the local Cattle market, farmer or perhaps a Vet. The reason is that all 3 tend to remove Horns from Cattle to stop the animals goring each other in transit.

Don't be surprised if they give you the items fresh cut and with little bits of flesh hanging off of them though! Your average farmer tends to have that sense of humour if you see what I mean. ;)

Make a helmet

Post by Mangamad »

I appologize in advance if this isn't the place to talk about it.

I'm thinking of making the Helmet of Justice and Eye shield for a convention I'm going, Amecon. Before I make it...any ideas on how to make it? ^,^;\

Hi. One approach would be to try getting in touch with fans who've made their own Knightmare props, and asking their advice. Here's some info from a post I made earlier this year, when a former KM contestant dropped by and asked about the helmet:
Drassil wrote: Last year, some guys in Belfast organised a reenactment of Knightmare - http://www.knightmare.com/forum/http:// ... eadid=2102 . The replica helmet they used may be available.

http://knightmare.com/fanstuff/halloween/index.htm - Illusion may be able to put you in contact with the owner of this replica.
And here's another KM prop maker that's posted since: http://www.knightmare.com/forum/http:// ... eadid=2231.

Here's a page from The Quest with an article on how the eyeshield was made: http://knightmare.com/club/2-2/p7.htm. And http://knightmare.com/pictures/ holds many high-quality photographs of the helmets and eyeshield.

Even though all that's indirect on my part, I hope it helps, and I wish you luck. I reckon you'll be as good at making a replica of the Helmet of Justice as you are at drawing it. Let us know how it all goes (in words or pictures or both!).

P.S. Do you have a link for information on Amecon?

Great. Thanks for the help Dressil, I'll take a look at them.

Oh...the gift I give to you is Amecon.org. Best of luck. ^_~

Incidently one of the advisors in Gideon's quest (Series 8, Team 2) Requested use of the Helmet of Justice for his wedding if I remember rightly

The first helmet was made of a sort of foam, the horns were papier mache and the seams of the helmet was thick string, the whole thing was painted brown with a hint of gold glitter. Built around the outside of a hard-hat!

I sound like the Oracle of Confusion there for a moment! ;D
If the only way is onward how would you get home for tea?? :-/

I know it's a few years since Mangamad made this post, but I'm just wondering if this was the eventual end product. Pretty good even if it isn't him, I have to say.
