The general rumour is that the ratings have been good. I'm afraid I don't know any more than that.

I should imagine it'd be very difficult to find out what kind of ratings it received. Though I sincerely hoped a lot of people watched it - including people who had never seen the show before. If the worst should come to the worst, and a new series not be made (and the mooted new series isn't even properly in pre-production), it is important that new people be introduced to the series. For example, I'm 18 (born 1984) and so can only fully remember precise things after series 4/5. If I was any younger; well, it doesn't bear thinking about ...

Trial_by_Spikes: I was born in 1984 as well, but it's the opposite for me - I remember series 4, 5 and 6 (the 'castles' era) but everything was new to me when I looked at Series 7 and 8 on this site. I do remember watching and taping them, though I can't find any taped episodes.

Like I said in chat last night, it's like the Men in Black have come and erased my memory for that period or something.

I remember you saying that.

I can remember back to series 1 (I was born in 1982). On the Monday, Danny got blown up by a bomb. On the Wednesday, it was my 5th birthday, and on the Friday it was the Great Storm of '87! What a week!  :o

Yes, the ratings information will definitely be hard to come by. We have tried repeatedly to get some answer out of Challenge? on this question, but to no avail.

However, it seems both Treguard and I have been told much the same thing from different sources- that the ratings were not the reason the channel have decided not to obtain other series of KM.

If you want the exact viewing figures, then you'll have to subscribe to B.A.R.B. - they take care of all that. They're responsible for the viewing tables in tv listings guides.

The only way for us non-TV execs to find out is if the show happens to be one of Challenge?'s ten top rating shows for any particular week. It hasn't been, at least not yet.

We have asked on their forums. Sometimes they've given us a hint, but not recently.

:P I think it's to do with the timeslot as people are still getting home from work between 6.00 and 6.30. I did mention before that I was dissappointed that they changed the timeslot, in hope that they would change it back. Fat chance of that! Due to the popularity of Takeshi's Castle.

I dont get why Takeshi's Castle is still so popular, yeah I found it hilarious the first few times I watched it but after that it just gets a little boring with the same Japanese people making fools of themselves and getting muddy and hurt in the process.

Plus I cant stand Craig Charles

Knightmare is just soooooooo much better, people just dont have a clue!

I can't believe it takes 4 writers to write craig's script as well. It wouldn't even be good if he was making it up on the spot.

4 WRITERS?

Do they make up one line each or something?....

'Here's my favourite replay...'

'That's gotta hurt...'

'Oh and he's fallen off, into thew mud'

'Join us again to see if anyone can storm Takeshi's castle..'
