Knightmare VR Pilot Discussion

Well, seeing as how the full pilot has been made available for download by those nice people at TeleVirtual, I thought that it might be good to start a thread where people can talk about it. This seemed the obvious place to start such a thread - seeing as how the pilot can be regarded as an episode of Km (and a brand knew one, to boot). :)

(P.S. If you haven't downloaded it already, please remember beveryafraid's request: please download on an even-numbered day if your username starts with A-Q; otherwise (R-Z) download on an odd-numbered day. Also, if you're under 20 years of age, please download before 9:00pm; otherwise download after 9:00pm. This is to ease the load on their website.)

Well basically the order of the sample clips on the Televirtual site is how they appear in the pilot. However the pilot clip show much more including Lord Fear mentioning that his middle name is Morris.

I can't seem to find this 'full pilot' clip on Televirtual's website. I can only find the various clips that are available on the Knightmare VR news page, unless you mean the 'Puzzle Room Full' clip, that is!

Can you give me a link to where I could download this pilot? I'll respect Tim Child's wishes and download after 9pm (23) and tomorrow, an odd-numbered day (name starts with T)

I have enjoyed watching this pilot, it has many new ideas involved.

I like the seeing stone, although I think they should be harder to obtain.

I imagine that the presenter of the show is that green thingy with the armour, BeVeryAfraid, I think? I quite like the idea of having the show presented from the Opposition POV, although the Treguard touch does feel terribly absent.

I like the look of the tunnels, and the general atmosphere of the rooms, especially the Slice Me, Dice Me room. However....the music in the tunnels...This is the biggest 'No' for me.

For me it breaks the tension and atmosphere of the other rooms, and makes it sound....Like a gameshow, which is something KM always used to avoid.

Treguard has a good presence inside the game, although I still believe that he should be within an ante chamber with 2 advisors.

Speaking of which, the girl did sound very scripted, more so than the dungeoneer...Was this scriptted for the pilot's sake?

On the whole, I am very impressed with the look and feel of the gameplay, it is a highly advanced S8 as far as graphics are concerned, and it is dark and gloomy ~ Just like it should be!

My feelings on the pilot were similar to yours, Kieran. Upon first hearing the dwarf tunnel music in the clips it made me laugh, but in the overall pilot then it really didn't help the atmosphere of things & sounded very cheesy. I also got the impression the advisor was scripted, but I suppose you don't want a lot of fumbling around in the pilot episode.

I would also like to see the ante-chamber, the presenter thing (creature, whatever) was amusing for sure. The few rooms that we did see were very much in the style of the original show certainly, there wasn't a huge amount of tension as it was only a pilot and having seen clips I knew they weren't going to die.

I would personally change the dwarf tunnel music for reasons stated here & for the same reasons Kieran suggested. Also I wouldn't mind seeing an ante-chamber either, perhaps a bit more of Lord Fear & Lissard. The Elly character seemed fairly interesting, shame it ended before we got to see what reward she was going to offer. Overall I enjoyed the pilot and was very impressed with things in general.

Overall i thought it was great. Captured the knightmareness but with a new twist type thing.

points:
1. although the music in the tunnels was very funny it was the way the dungeoneer moved down them looked like he was dancing down the tunnels to the music although it was good.
2. the rooms could look a bit gloomier. ok maybe just the ogre room. it was too bright although in the clue room if when it showed inside the spotlight it was dust aprticles floating around and not just fuzz from my media player then that was great detail....

It looks good but I was wondering if they would have the orginal them tune. They could keep the theme tune but make it more modern!

Haven't yet downloaded the full pilot - but will comment on the clips I have seen.

On the whole it looks very promising and hope it is enough to see KMVR commisioned.

It is Knightmare but brought up to date.

One thing I would like to see is the antichamber with three advisors with Treguard and even Majida.

It would be good to see some more orginal characters return inparticular Hordriss, Motley, Greystagg, Sidriss, Stileta and Sly Hands.

I know I've said this before but I feel that these characters (and actors) are integral to Knightmare.

Look frward with some reservations as to how the inventory system will work and would like to see the dungeoneer's moves more natural.

So was I the only one who quite liked that dwarf tunnel music?

Oh. Well, I thought it was quite funky.

Oh, alright, that series 3 'hum' would have been more appropriate.

Anyway, this being only a pilot, there were a couple of things that could be a touch more fluent- the way that lil' dungeoneer moves, for example. It would also be a bit more sensible if he wasn't a clot. Honestly, did he say he should hop on a (non-existent, at that) letter 'A' in the slice me dice me room? Tch. With brains like that he deserves to lose.

Musn't get angry with him, though. And the name of the room, 'slice me dice me' is great. Lord Fear and Lissard were on top form.

Treguard's just a head, though! Surely we'll get some banter of some kind, rather than elaborate 'Caution team' warnings. As I said, though, it IS a pilot, and not a full length episode. I would have been drumming my fingers if I had to wait for 5 minutes whilst Pickle/Majida scampered about the antechamber, putting fruit into knapsacks and mentioning about eye shields...

Eye shields...

Hang on... :D

Hooray! They're gone!

I believe Tim Child posted a comment about this a while back saying that this would be highly unlikely.

Yup. I think it's because the cost of getting the rights to use the theme tune would be astronomical - and therefore prohibitive.

I suppose it depends who owns it, if it is the original composer still then perhaps as a collective we could could try to persuade him...

The dwarf tunnel music is good, although might not be appropriate (although maybe if they darkenned it in higher numbered levels it would work. "Well, it's funky in level 1 because there's no danger a little brains can't avoid dieing to" sort of thing). I do think they could do something with 'they look like a throat, maybe something that sounds 'inside a body' esque for them.

The music on Despair's causeway simply rocked, and really made it feel 'like a live action computer game-esque', since it's the sort of music I'd expect for that sort of area in an rpg.

And about the Slice-Me-Dice-Me. I think that's the creepiest room I've ever seen in Knightmare. It's not actually dangerous if it's always that easy to obtain the info for crossing it (although, saying that, level 1 causeways shouldn't have killed anyone. Hm.), but the atmosphere of the room is simply devine in a hellish sort of way. You can almost feel the axes going just inches from the dungeoneers back. I hope that if and when this is commissioned someone does get killed in that room simply because I want to see the death animation for the axes hitting a dungeoneer.

Every other creepy room in Knightmare was probably more creepy because you knew there was a good chance of the dungeoneer dieing, this one there doesn't seem to be a good chance but... Wow. When the dungeoneer left it I realised that I'd been on the edge of my seat during it, similar to how I used to be with the coridoor of blades.

Graphics are awsome, although organic textures (eg skin) are somewhat lacking. Understandable defacit, however, seeing as organics are the hardest part of cgi to do, especially if said cgi is cgi animation rather than cgi stills.

And is it me or does the ogre's ass get a little screen time?

Ed Welch owns it, and from what I gather, tends to gain more royalties from the show then TC does! Only chance is Ed Welch composing a new version of the tune, I think but I agree in that it should return to the new series.
