Thanks, I will remove that.

http://knightmare.com/news/121-knightma ... dnutt.html:
John Woodnutt, who played 'Merlin' in Knightmare Series 1-4, was recently spotted in a Mastercard advert playing Solitaire whilst talking about 'gambling with your money'.

Not sure which company the advert was for...
There may be a contradiction in there. ;)

I can't find this advert online, nor any reference to it outside Knightmare.com, though maybe in time someone else will.

The inner pedant rears his aesthetically displeasing head again: it was M(y)att and I who broke this story, in early July. In fact, when I spoke with Andrew in mid-July, I was the one telling him that Beer + Pizza Club was to feature Knightmare! He later brought news of a different episode recording that featured Knightmare-related banter, but whether it made the final edit is another matter. That episode was the first broadcast, and the Dave Berry/Knightmare episode will be the seventh. (Dave Berry's 'spoilers' were transcribed to the Lexicon under XFM.)

I'd happily see Matt given sole credit for the news, but for Andrew to be the only named information provider doesn't seem right to me.

Website Feedback

Post by KaM »

Canadanne wrote:The only thing I found a bit odd is how the articles about the various video clips (with screencaps etc) don't include a link to the clip they're talking about. A couple of times I didn't realise the video was actually available to watch until I found them all in that separate section!
Well spotted! Thank you! Part of the problem came down to the order in which everything was migrated from the old site. Attachments were amongst the last, and then linking everything back together afterwards was always going to be slightly hazardous. Leaving important links out, though, was not part of the plan 8-o. I'm very glad that you found the Miscellaneous/Other Clips section of your own ingenuity, and I'm cheered by your good spirit in spite of these mishaps. Hopefully, now, all articles that have an accompanying clip offer a link to the right place.

Perhaps it would make better sense to attach clips to their relevant article. To keep the clips together keeps the attachments side of things tidy, but the linking is potentially untidy. I've had to correct an embarrassing number of failed links from page to page between video and articles; I'm all the more grateful for this pointer to discover the problem. To attach clips to their articles makes the attachment side of things a little less tidy, but eliminates the linking issue. From a content point of view, there are benefits of collecting all that media together in the 'Other Clips' page. It is hopefully clear what there is, and when new additions are added.

This thread has formed an interesting fusion between contribution, welcome, and site feedback. But while we're here: any thoughts, good lords and ladies?

Just so you know, the same problem exists with the various CITV clips:
http://www.knightmare.com/media/clips/1301-citv.html

There's an article about Knightmare on CITV under each of the individual series sections, but none of those articles link to the available clips. Like this one for example:
http://www.knightmare.com/series/series ... -citv.html

Thanks again! Yes, CITV was a slightly sticky issue. It used to have its own section [or 'category' as we would call it now], with a dedicated landing page that was the conduit between all of the material, but this was disbanded during the transfer and the absence of the main page has affected navigation there.

There's a discussion at the moment about uniting clips and articles; the CITV clips would fall under that remit. But, ceteris paribus, the linking will be fixed, and the old landing page could perhaps be fitted in somewhere as well. Once again, thanks for the attention to detail. It's exactly what is needed. :P

Re: Billy's Picky Website Corrections...and other people's,

Post by Canadanne »

I'm as picky as the next person around here, so here are some that I've spotted...

http://www.knightmare.com/series/series-1/953-s1q6.html
A few corrections to the Cedric/Folly duel of insults:
~ Cedric's "I guard these walls" should be "I guard these halls".
~ Folly's "En contre my dear mindless monk, en contre" should be "Au contraire". (I notice this was listed as having been corrected here, but... it hasn't!)
~ Cedric's "What do you fancy then tinsel-brain, fool..." should be "What do you fancy then, tinsel-brain? Swords..."
~ Folly's "harsh words have already been spoken" was actually "harsh, offensive words have been spoken".
~ Treguard's "Ooooh, and a lovely shunt from Folly" should be "a lovely shot".

http://www.knightmare.com/series/series ... ml?start=1
From Barry's quest, Level 2:
~ "Fidjit opens the door for them to the fire ball room where they find a potion." They already had the Fireproof potion (from the earlier clue table) - they actually find some witch amber, which is what they went in there for. Also, it's called the Firebomb Room, not the fire ball room.

http://www.knightmare.com/series/series ... at-be.html
~ Sir Hugh de Wittless should have two T's, not one.

http://www.knightmare.com/series/series ... ition.html
~ "The Leader of the Opposition moved to new headquarters this season, Mount Fear". He was already at Mount Fear in Series 5, he just had a new chamber this year.
~ Dreadnought should be Dreadnort.

There are quite a few typos in the pages of The Quest - I don't have time to go through them all at the moment but can do so later if you want.

I also remember noticing several broken images on the website when I was exploring a couple of months ago, but I didn't make a note of where they were. I'll have another look for them at some point.

All done. Thanks. :)
Canadanne wrote:"Au contraire". (I notice this was listed as having been corrected here, but... it hasn't!)
My bad. There are certain corrections where you do want people to see that you are not making it up. :) Frustratingly, the gaffe referred to in the alternate thread involving the Brollachan I have seen since, but I failed to note it again then. Perhaps it was altered and forgotten about.

There were a handful of additional errors on the pages you highlighted, so I'm grateful for having had reason to check through them. To name a few:
  • Teams, S7, Quest 3: force a field. The spirit of Ridolfo lingering?
Teams, S7, Quest 3: Lissard has instructed a troll to destroy the dungeon. Perhaps not... :)
Teams, S7, Quest 7: Met Rothberry and traded a potion for another piece of the staff he had. That's not strictly true. Rothberry gives them the potion back!
Series 1, Quest 6: 'paladin' was incorrect.
There are always so many to be found. 8)

Any help is always welcome and appreciated. :)

I'll see about anchoring quests on 'Team' pages, so it will be easier to direct towards any one quest rather than a page of several.

And a couple more issues of The Quest. Again, some of the spelling mistakes may have appeared in the original newsletter, in which case I don't know if you prefer to correct them or keep them in, but I've highlighted them anyway. (I think it would be more enjoyable if it was easier to read, so it may be worth fixing the punctuation and blatant typos / scanning errors at least.)

http://www.knightmare.com/fanzine/108/1 ... t-212.html
~ "...have fallen on death ears..." Should be "deaf"!!
~ "...so that we don't all have to listen to him practicing..." Should be "practising".

~ "We will win, we will win, we will win!!"" Missing a quote mark.
~ "Treguard muttered a reply1..."
~ "The Frightknights stopped what they were doing faced Hordriss," - needs a comma after "doing".
~ "As they did so, a noise erupted from their metal" - needs a full stop.
~ "You saved the villagers and the Powers That Bell" - I assume the l's should be exclamation marks?!
~ "Perhaps you should crawl back to you dingy hove..."
~ "With that be disappeared..."

http://www.knightmare.com/fanzine/108/1 ... 214-5.html
~ "...some pretty wierd things..."
~ "...Marlene Deitrich..."
~ "Our visit to Cheltenham was going to he a chance..."
~ "Daddy acking in Chom Pom with On-go" - I presume this should say "Oo-go" (Hugo) as in the previous instance.
~ "...and Tolah got down to the job of re-creating the cit." Name should be Tulah according to the previous sentence. What is the "cit"?? Should it say "elf" perhaps?
~ "...I knew the show would he doomed."
~ "We needn't have worried" - should this have a dash or semicolon after it?
~ "...a dozen jimmys..." Needs a capital J.
~ "With an "ooh" and an "aah" and bags of laughter the show whistled by" - needs a full stop.

http://www.knightmare.com/fanzine/108/1 ... t-216.html

~ "Last year everyone down at the Castle had a great time of it over the festive season" - needs a full stop.
~ "perhaps he was thinking..." Needs a capital P.
~ "Oh don't he ridiculous"
~ "Brother Mace was busy preparing the dinner" - needs a full stop.
~ "It was tradition for at the Castle..." I don't think the word "for" should be there.
~ "Suddenly, a cry went up, and everyone turned to see Elita stuck on top of the Christmas tree!" This sentence is included twice - the first has a couple of errors but the second is correct.
~ "...now exactly who's jokes were you saying weren't funny?" Should be "whose".
~ "I think this one's hilarious!" Missing a quote mark.
~ ""I can't say I was impressed with the did Sidriss, examining one of the used crackers." Eh? Apart from the missing quote mark, I'm not even sure what this is supposed to say!
~ "I even went all the way to Harrolds to get the big place in the centre of the forest." Eh??
~ ""I'm sorry Pickle, but I have to agree" said Treguard. /" Random forward slash!
~ "...said Gundrada sounding rather dismayed" - needs a full stop.
~ The "Next Page" link takes you to page 7 of the previous issue.

http://www.knightmare.com/fanzine/108/1 ... t-217.html
~ "...and the nasty Lord Fear" - needs a full stop.
~ "...and with him on our side a against Lord Fear..." Random "a" needs removing.

~ "...we don't loose track of magic..."
~ "It's certainly true that not all faerie is good, in those and wrong, cruel and kind, fair and fool." This sentence doesn't appear to make sense, but I'm not sure what it ought to say. I also wonder if the "fool" is meant to be "foul".
~ "There a many different names..."
~ "In Knightmare. Pooka's don't always attack..." Should be a comma, not a full stop. (There shouldn't really be an apostrophe there either...)
~ "Geists. or Stormgeists can also be disturbed..." Should be a comma, not a full stop.
~ "Geists prove fatal, but they can cause considerable damage to Life Force..." Is this sentence missing the word "rarely"?
~ "Goblins of course, we have a plenty." Should be one word.

http://www.knightmare.com/fanzine/108/1 ... 224-5.html
~ "I'm sorry Master but I am afraid you'll have to speak up!" shouted Pickle!". There shouldn't be a quote mark at the end.
~ "The village we are heading is for Castleden!" Should be "for is" I think.

Series 4 Teams Page - Team 8

For some reason pictures of the advisors Andrew and Brett are appearing twice in the team's quest summary. I'm guessing that the picture of Merlin in the opening chamber of Level 3 (which just happens to be in the Level 2 description) should be here instead.

Alerted by this, this led me to head over to the Knightmare Guestbook and dig out the original guestbook entry that dungeoneer Giles made back in June 2000 (over ten years ago now - click here to see the entry, at present its the fifth entry down). This isn't currently featured with the other guestbook entries made by Giles and advisor Robin should you wish to add it when making proposed amendments.

'After the show ended, I started to make Knightmare computer games. In total, 16 adventures were created, however, they were made using Harvard Graphics 3.0 for DOS and will only run in that software so unless you have it, you can't play the games.'

We now know that this is no longer the case.
