It sounds a lot like one of the games from Crystal Maze - which is probably an excellent source for appropriate puzzle ideas.
Knightmare: Kid-worthy, Naasty, Inspiring, Groundbreaking, Humorous, Treguard, Mesmerising, Adult-worthy, Rewarding, Essential.
