Vote "Knightmare" for ITV's 50 Greatest Shows

Post by HarveyTowers »

A list show commemorating ITV's 50th anniverary will be aired in September.

Clicking on the below link will allow you top pick your five favourite shows from the list provided and then add one omitted show - need I tell you that this deserves to be Knightmare?

http://www.itv50vote.com/

It's an outside chance I know - but maybe we can just sneak Knightmare into the top 50!

Their shortlist doesn't exactly wow me, though there are a couple of shows in it that I don't mind. Ridiculous that Km isn't in it. Mind you, since best-of lists are heavily influenced by current trends (classic example: some ultra-trendy music channel's 'best ever albums' list being clogged with rubbish, only put there because it's recent and in vogue with its cynically-targeted audience) it makes sense that as well as favourites being dictated by the audience, it also works in reverse - the broadcaster dictating what's 'best'. This vicious circle of playing safe and pandering to lowest-common-denominator vogue whilst also dictating what the vogue should actually be is perhaps also the thing that's responsible for sabotaging Km's attempted revival, imo.
Subject to change.

I agree with the above ^^^

I put Km in the box, but I think if I'd been given absolute freedom I'd have voted
* Knightmare
* The Tomorrow People (1992-1995 remake, not the crappy original)
* Bad Influence!
* the Frank Skinner show
* the Avengers

Y'know, it occurs to me that ITV is a bit of a crap channel, seeing as that's all I can come up with (actually, I thought of the Prisoner as well, but you're only allowed five). I came up with six properly good ITV shows :|

If it were BBC1, 2 or channel 4 I could do a list as long as my arm :P

My god, they really haven't a clue, have they? Out of the whole list, I only found one that I liked.

Yeah it really is a bit of a poor showing - fifity years and that's the best that they can do?

I voted:

An Audience with... (only because I saw the excellent Victoria Wood the other night on ITV2 or 3)
Heartbeat (genuinly good Sunday night drama)
The Muppet Show (genuinly good: a classic!)
Spitting Image (from the few repeats I've seen and documentaries I've seen)
This is Your Life (I remember this as a BBC show though!)
Good night out there; whatever you are!

Is it me or does there only seem to be one or two, maybe three from the KM era? Most of the shows are pre 80s or post 95. I guess that I can't vote though as I could only see one or two listed that I like. I'll study the list again though to see if I change my mind.

I think this calls for a "Vote for Knightmare " site campaign as per the Channel 4 100 Greatest Kid's TV Shows. I will prepare something...

ITV has gone down in standard really since 1993-94 and now it's a horrible channel in my opinion. Anyways I've nominated Knightmare too. It thoroughly deserves a place in the top 50 for sure. :)

As always ITV are in denial of the simple fact...

They axed a great TV show that everybody loved.
Probably the same people who came up with that list. Honestly..."Ant and dec"? "Pop idol"?

Idiots.

Voted.

ITV are definitely the worst terrestrial channel.

I don't believe that list, I honestly do not..

How can they include shows such as "Footballers’ Wives", and not Knightmare?

I thought Footballers' Wives was a Sky programme?

I wouldn't think this top 50 will be that meaningful to many people anyway. People might mention what got number one but its unlikely this will be discussed for years to come. Knightmare tops all them shows in my opinion!

Definitely agree with the vicious circle idea said earlier.
The only way is onward, there is no turning back. Oooh nasty, didn't realise the road ended there!
