And the last team of the season today demonstrated just how NOT to do the Block and Tackle. Had me in stitches though  ;D

You'd think that the animated backgrounds in Knightmare would be pre-rendered, especially in the older series when they didn't have advanced real-time rendering facilities like today. The background would just be a paused videotape, and after Pickle/Treguard had warned about the dangers of the Block and Tackle, someone would just press a button to start the tape going.

Even the numbered causeways in later series were pre-rendered. If you look closely you can see them pause the tape after each set of blocks fall. (the Frightknight is a separate video loop)

But the randomness of the Block and Tackle seems odd. Perhaps they had several different versions of movement for the blocks and one was chosen at random?

A modern Knightmare series could use some real-time 3D rendering capabilities to do completely random obstacles that still looked good. Look at the real-time 3D rendering of the Gamecube and XBox for example!

It seems to me that the blocks that fly overhead don't do much harm... It's to me like the Moving Block puzzle in 1993, only you have to avoid the blocks...
If the only way is onward how would you get home for tea?? :-/

I'm sure Ariadne was also controlled by someone playing and rewind the tape, as the spider sometimes moves backwards as well as forwards.

Going back to the block and tackle. It seemed to have moved around in the same sequence:

1. Top blocks start moving
2. Bottom left of floor collapsed
3. Middle left of floor collapsed
4. Back end of the room Bottom Block moved to the left.
5. Far left of floor collapsed
6. Near end of the room Bottom Block moved to the left. (the one which killed Vicky when it mowed her down)
7. Far center of floor collapsed

As for the rest, I believe either the team were out of the room by that stage, or the braking up skull and rolling eyeballs would've made their appearance! :-[
