The goblin hunting parties were always fabulous, even if they were just to hurry teams on or provide a bit of atmosphere. I much preferred the sound of goblin horns (occasionally with approaching goblins) to the approaching troll sounds or red dragon shadow often used towards the end.

At least with the goblin horns you knew that a genuine threat was approaching  ;)

Exactly. And we know from bitter experience that offering them a present will do NO good whatsoever. ;)

For characters, it would have to be Mogdred. JW gives some really scary performances, and thankfully he wasn't overused.

For monsters, I'd say the Catacombite and Ariadne. I'd love to see both make a return in the new series, if it happens. Ariadne used to frighten me senseless (especially with those creepy sound effects) and I still think the Catacombite is a darn scary image. I think with the effects that are now possible, it could be a real talking point for a new generation of viewers.

Does the Life Force count?

I never found the monsters scary! It was always the non-scary, yet lethal things such as hauntings and *shivers* magic swords...

I agree totally. I reckon Mogdred is definitely the scariest.

I too would love to see Catacombites and Ariadne make a return - thanks to VR they'd be able to intelligently react to the dungeoneer, as opposed to being a bit of animation/film.

Ah! The Life Force Clock. 'nuff said.  8)

I was very scared of Ariadne when I was young, and the high-pitched whine of the razorblades haunts my dreams to this day.

Lord Fear actually stopped me sleeping three nights in a row when I was seven, according to my Mum and Dad!

I told you before. It was a case of mistaken identity. I should get compensation: the wretched straitjacket chafed my arms, dearie.
