To sum up, the full list of the characters Clifford played is...

Hordriss the Confuser (s3-8), Owen the dragon (s3), Oakley the Tree Troll (s4-5), Smirkenorff the (other) dragon (s6-8 - not s5 as Smirky didn't talk back then), and the Dreadnort (s6).

Clifford Norgates just got one of them voices aint he?

He's been in Knightmare right from the start aint he?

Where Hordriss was "not on the light side, nor the dark side. However, he is a distinct shade of dark grey and should be taken very seriously!"

It took me a while to figure that Rayner Bourton played both Scaramonger and skarkill- the characters are so diferent- but now I can hear similarities!

Not right from the start, but as early as series 3.

ah right- sorry!

I swear it was earlier than that??
never mind. I can remember him in series 3 and that nice sounding ambient music that came on his calling- like it!

Unlike with Lawrence Werber's two characters. If I hadn't been told I would never have figured out that he was Casper the Key as well as Cedric...

Cedric= loud and bold
Casper= whiny little northern voice.

Very clever. Some people can do other voices quite well!

...which Tom Karol was well credited for on this site.

"Looting and pillaging, looting and pillaging!"

I think he must have been to Scandinavia at some point to pick up that accent. I'll see if it's true myself, I'll be in Norway this time next month...

I always find it the other way round. I'd have to think twice about ever going to Spain, Italy, Greece, the Caribbean, India etc... you know, popular holiday destinations. Generally, my entire body shuts down as soon at the temperature rises above 25°C. On the other hand, the average temperature for Oslo in April is a far more acceptable 6.5°C. Marvellous.

Next stop: Iceland.

"Loot, pillage, or vurms?"

I'm just wondering if I'll run into anyone this mad, given that I'm not staying in Oslo for the whole trip - I'll be out there up the mountains, down the fjords, and back to the pub for a round of stokfisk and very expensive beer. Possibly this will involve a few stops in tiny villages where everyone carries a bludgeon, and if any of them look a bit... backward, I'll try and fleece them for a pint or two with the philosopher's stone trick.

"I think they be making Danish bacon of Olaf!"

Time to run...

I wonder... could Paul Valentine Tomkins, Zumba instructor, be the artist formerly known as Motley?

I can't find a photo so I don't know for sure if it's him or not, but I previously saw a post on a message board describing the same guy as a "cheeky chappie" and "formerly a successful TV and stage actor in the UK" with "a lot of experience of improvisation". Which certainly sounds like him!

Paul Valentine on Playdays!

Post by Canadanne »

OMG, I never knew Paul Valentine used to do voiceovers on Playdays in 1990, for the Dot Stop episodes! Just found one called 'Shoes' that someone has shared only this week. He spends the episode having a one-sided conversation with Dot, singing songs and reading the story in the middle, and appears on screen to perform a dance routine at the 13 minute mark (very Motley-esque). So cool to see and hear him in something that isn't Knightmare!

I heard a lot of great stories about Paul Valentine over the years. I really wish we could get in touch with him.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough information to be able to track him down. At some point, I shall fully turn my attention to it.

I think I found an email address for him, but I haven't attempted to get in touch. (Not 100% sure if it's the right guy, but I reckon so.) Would definitely love to hear from him about his Knightmare memories!
