David Learner in The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy TV series

I bought the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD today (finally!), and just finished watching the Backstage feature, including an interview with David Learner. I'm not sure which is more freaky - seeing Pickle wearing a sweet-decorated jumper or the archive footage where he had the huge moustache! And was the Michael Cule as the animated Babel Fish? Hehehe...

Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Greenbridge, Essex, England. Second came the Azgoths of Kria, while the Vogons were only the third worst poets in the universe.

That's it. Well done, Ark!

I'll bet it was something Autumnal.  ;)

Its a good buy that! Its a fantastic DVD which I brought before interviewing David Learner, I didnt even know that it existed until he told me, but being a fan I had to buy it! There's a huge amount of behind-the-scenes stuff and seeing DL in a 'tash is fab! He mentioned that when he emailed me:

"I've had several comments about the awfulness of the moustache I had during
HHGG rehearsal and even worse beard during filming ...  I was so young after
all ... I think I can blame my age ...."

Ah well we live and learn I guess!  ;D

Yeah, its good to think that two of the Knightmare actors started off at the same place. Apparently Michael Cule and David Learner bump into each other at conventions now, I wonder if we should all go the whole hog and have Knightmare conventions...or would that be a bit sad?

Wouldn't be sad at all. Why not?

A convention would be very jolly. We could invite a few actors along etc - even play Knightmare (just blindfold someone and guide them around). Obviously, the Knightmare drinking game (as seen on "the other side of the greater game") would be have to be played. Several times. Normally I hate drinking games (why not just drink?) but combine said pursuit with Knightmare and you have one hell of a good game.

We could always organise a "Mega-Chat" where we invite all the cast and crew along on Sunday night.

Then again, no-one will be able to get a word in! We'll all be asking questions - the chat client'll be spurting out pages of lines in seconds!

I'd also appreciate the chance to try out the KM drinking game. It looks a lot better than most similar efforts.

Please could we make voodoo dolls of the pointless Challenge GJs?

I'll always think of Stephen Moore rather than David Learner as Marvin, largely because the radio version (the original - before even the books) was so much better than the telly (and, in my opinion, slightly better than the first three books [and, of course, a lot better than the last two]).

And the worst poet in the radio version was Paul Neil Milne Johnstone of Redbridge.

Hooray! I can finally access the forum for the first time in about 3 weeks!

I bought the same DVD a fortnight ago to add to my collection. I haven't watched all the extras yet, I'll do that after The Simpsons.

David Learner, who played Pickle, also acted as the body (but not the voice) of Marvin the Android in the TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
