Googlewhacks

I just got the weirdest e-mail...

"Hello there,

Please pardon this e-mail from out of the blue. It's just to let you know that your webpage entitled Lord Fear's Christmas Carol is a googlewhack!! It's becoming a bit of a worldwide phenomenon to type in two random words into the internet search engine google and try to get only one hit out of 3 billion sites all over the planet. I typed in PSYCHOPATHICALLY REFLECTIVELY and the one result google gave me was to your page. I registered it and it's now on http://www.googlewhack.com. It's a bit silly, but really addictive. Just thought I'd let you know you're a googlewhack!! One out of 3 billion!

Kind regards
Chris"

So there you have it. He's talking about that fanfic I posted at Christmas of course... but I was wondering, has anything this ever happened to any of you?

Oh good grief, another strange person on the Internet.

None of this would have happened if we kept the communication method of attaching messages to carrier pigeons...

It hasn't happened to me, and I hope it doesn't...I don't know whether you should feel honoured or just completely bewildered...

The 'comedian' Dave Gorman has been going on about his recent 'Googlewhack adventure', in which he not only found several Googlewhacks, but travelled out to meet the website owners.

I have found a few in my time. There are all sorts of rules governing Googlewhacking (mustn't use proper names, or made-up words, etc.); but most of the time I just use Google as intended - as a search engine.

Still, a tentative 'well done' on having a Googlewhack, HStorm. It's a shame that the gentleman who emailed you didn't tell you that, Googlewhack or not, you have a site that is well worth visiting.

FK  -  Bewildered, mate. Not scared, not honoured, just very, very bewildered.

Drass  -  Thanks for the compliment, but it was actually on fanfic.net, not my site. And I'm pretty sure the entire story went completely over his head, if he bothered to read it at all  -  he seems to be from Canada, judging by the e-mail address.

From Canada, that would explain a lot  ::)

Hey hey, my Dad's Canadian!

Canada isn't too bad though, even if English people co-exist with French speakers, which makes the place odd. Somehow if you tied the UK to France so Dover and Calais were connected, I'm not sure there would be peaceful harmony.

Although it would be easier to get cheaper alcohol for us... ;D

Nobody's knocking Canada, FK, we're just saying not many people over there are going to know anything about Knightmare.

The latest craze, apparently.

Like yo-yos were in the late 1990s.
Or furbies.
Or the Segway transporter.
Or tamagotchis...

Sounds a bit like here in Aber - English people co-existing with Welsh-only speakers. THAT's odd, specially when they refuse to speak to you if you're English lol...

YAY tamagotchi's! Where did I leave mine...?

Just be grateful you weren't an English schoolkid living in Glasgow at the height of the Poll Tax riots of '89. Guess who all the other schoolkids took it out on. Go on, have a guess.
