Series 3

OK, so what are your favourite memories of Series 3?  :)

I think this series was probably the hardest with no teams winning. Teams 4 & 11 (the closest) were very unlucky as they had done very well to get as far as they did.

I liked Merlin's new chamber as well as "the lair of the dreaded Ka"   ;) , as well as the new animated wall monsters Golgarach and Brangwen, and for some reason, I found the room with the huge foot striding across it pretty good also!

Cheers  ;D

Hi! :)  I'm knew here and since I started watching Knightmare in Series 3, I thought this would be a good topic to start off in!

Right then, what did I think of it?  On the fateful day when I tuned in to the first episode of the 3rd series (I was 9), I just thought it was absolutely brilliant!  The best thing I'd seen on the telly EVER!  The graphics were fantastic, the characters fabulous, the rooms marvellous and the whole concept mind-blowing!  And that was it...BANG! I was hooked!  And to this day, I still love it - I hope they start showing the whole series all over again on terrestrial TV (I don't have Digital so I can't see it on Challenge TV this Christmas :( ).

Anyway, back to the original question.  My favourite rooms that I can remember were the lair of Ka, the green path along the valley which had a green bog at the side of it (I remember when the dungeoneer fell in, lol!), the chamber with the stone snake and it's tongue, Merlin's chamber with the floor puzzle, room with the black cats that fired bolts into a pit in the floor and the level 2 clue room.  I remember being annoyed when Leo took the wrong path in the stained glass window room and came out on a cliff edge - and he was so close to winning too!

But really I just loved the whole of it - fantastic TV!

S3= My fav season.

It had superb characters (all of which were at their best).

MRS GRIMWOLD! (played by a male!)  AND FESTUS!

Treguard actually got himself out of that potato sack!

Motley was a bit shakey at first, but soon slipped into his character.

NEW wall monsters (although same rooms).  Brangwen and Golgarach (?) where superb, although sometimes I could understand what the former said.

It is, however, for me the most annoying season, as SO MANY teams just simply fell flat.  However, it was also annoying that we never got to see the final stages of quests (only so far as the glass room), although I think it was like S2, seeing as that room from S2 appears in the credits at one point.

The start and the end of the season imo were the best of any other, Treguards farewell speech was superb.

Moggy was hardly in it sadly, but Merlins room was brilliant, and very very magical.

Excellent atmosphere (although not as dark or as scary as S2), and some lovely rooms (the purple caves)

*Kieran thinks those purple caves should have been used in S4, as they are......purple!*

10/10!

BEST Bit: Those putty cats!  One of my clearest early memories!
WORST Bit: Hmmmmmmmmm, lack of Moggy, meaning lack of villians
BEST Good guy: Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Merlin!
BEST Nuetral: Mrs G :) (and festus)
BEST Bad guy: Morghanna....ohhhhhh she was bad! But not seen enough!

Understandable why Challenge! are repeating it!

Series 3 was not my all-time favourite season, but it did leave me with some fond memories. Some of my favourite moments are listed below:

- The "Oracle" room in level three, where the beams shoot out from the eyes of the cats.

- The Axe/Ledge room in level three, which was only used once.

- The Mine-Cart ride. Sheer brilliance, and much better than a boring wellway.

- The Chessboard room in level three, where Mogdred often appeared. A large snake sometimes appeared from the hole in the center of the room.

- The Brangwen-She/Golgarath rooms were very good, and the faces of the monsters looked much better as animated models with a human mouth.

- The unusual Water room in level one looked quite nifty. Motley was often found near here.

- The Mountain ledge in series one was excellent, and it was the very first 'outside style' room that was ever used in Knightmare. You could see little lights and houses in the distance.

- The oracle of confusion scared me when I was younger, but she had a nice voice.

- Mellisandra. Cute just doesn't do her justice. :)

Series 3, my favourite!

Best bits:
Morghanna - a sexy evil chick who also happens to be the only evil character with a 100% kill record! And the games she played with poor Martin before finally sending him packing with Unnatural Head Explosion Suyndrome was one of my personaly favourite parts of Knightmare in general!

Other good bits...I liked the Dwarf Tunnels, the first encounter with Hordriss (well, other than seeing a transparent image of his face in the L2 Clue Room), the nice-but-strange Mellisandre, and the infamous Mine Shaft...

Not-so-good-bits: Where oh where was Mogdred? He had only one real presence this season, turning McGrew into a man-sized toad, and a couple of quick cameos otherwise! Also this season was the first without Folly (not that I don't like Motley, but Folly was always my favourite jester...)

Remember the bit with two doors at the end of the green valley and path?  One team, (after meeting yours truly, I think!), went into the wrong door - the left one - and ended up in a room with an opened book on a pedestal thing.  Cue Mrs Grimwold's husband, who killed them!  That really annoyed me!  And I'm so sure I told them to go into the door on the right - do I remember correctly?

Close! The reason they died was that they didn't take the crayon from the clue room. They were supposed to use it to draw a well way, but since they didn't take it, they couldn't get any further and so met a nasty, nasty end.

Um ... I think so ... anyway ...

You're right, we didn't really see Mr Grimwold hit the dungeoneer with his club, just sort of moving towards him and holding the club over his head!  Then Treguard coming in with "Ooh...nasty!"  Not exactly a gruesome end (at least to our eyes!), was it?

Thanks for clearing that up, my memories of Series 3 are sadly a bit vague  :(  Thank goodness for the clips (and the whole site!) on this site though, or I wouldn't be able to recall anything!

Though choosing isn't easy, this is probably my favourite series. It took the best bits from the previous series and added some great new ideas. It also proved that the show was prepared to move on and innovate: gone, for example, is Lilith, mainstay of Level 1 in the previous seasons.

Some of what I loved about it:
- The quicksand that killed Team 1.
- The wonderful animated dwarf tunnels. Very atmospheric.
- The mine cart ride. A great idea and visually fabulous.
- Morghanna. Very effective, and pretty well-acted.
- Mrs. Grimwold and Festus. Okay, the acting wouldn't be out of place in pantomime, but it's funny for a while.
- Hordriss. I've said enough on so many threads for everyone to already know just how fabulous I think he is. Well conceived, brilliantly acted.
- Team 10's death. The abortive attempt while being killed to offer the goblins "a present" still makes me laugh.

All in all, very enjoyable. The difficulty is pretty consistent through the series too: it's a big challenge, but brilliant viewing for it. In my mind it proved too things:
1. You can have an extended series with no winners that's still exciting and enjoyable.
2. Sometimes simplicity is best. There's no really convoluted storylines here, no need to involve the teams in a drawn out storyline dictated by the plans for the End of Season. And it still works well for it.

I think team 4 was better than team 11. Team 11 had an unwanted clue object in level 1. I reckon if the two level 3 questions ("the largest ring on English ground" and the beetle one) were swapped around, team 4 would have won.

I like the dwarf tunnels too. I think they should have those in a new series.

Well they did use "dwarf tunnels" again, albeit....
No I must hold myself here, especially since I started this rule!  ;D

If you relax the rule, you know I'll start ranting about Brother Strange again. ;) Best keep the rule, methinks.

Series 3 of Knightmare has just finished, what are your thoughts on the series and which series would you like to see shown next?
