Series 1 - Episode 7

I thought that 'quest objects were not specified' according to the Series guide in series 1. However, in the last quest, in only the second room (the normal first room for series 1, after a 'one off' room), they chose the chalice door. Now this would make sense if the quest was for the chalice, but there were no clues up until this point that the chalice was ever a quest object. This door was not on the right. I would have thought the right-hand door (marked 'FIRE EXIT') would have been the choice, or perhaps the key. Additionally, in the early series, the team were not told the quest object at this point.

Also, in the corridor of the catacombs, they took the door marked by the chalice. The series guide says that this is the symbol of their quest. And this is a left-hand door!

I think it was actually meant to be the Holy Grail they were searching for, at least that's what the team thought. Even if it was, it's still an unusual type of quest if you compare it with all the others in Series 1, especially the first one where the dungeoneer sought 'knighthood' to which Treguard replied saying that the Silver Spurs of Squiredom is in fact the reward for conquering the dungeon- indeed, we saw both Mark and Julian's team recieve the 'Spurs in Series 2.
Series 1 Team 6's quest in general is pretty strange all round what with things like the drawbridge room, the insults match, and the ending coinciding with the actual series ending.

When the team were choosing which door to go through, back in Level One, Treguard advised them to select one "symbolic of a true quest". It may be that it wasn't a means of selecting a quest but simply a way of choosing the safest exit from that particular room.

Regarding the quest ending with the series, I'd put that down to a bit of skillful editing. It may also be that the Battle Of Insults was devised to make time up.

I wonder, though, what would have happened had they managed to get past the Wall Of Jericho.

I would guess that if they had got past the Wall of Jericho, the battle of insults would have been left out. It might have even been filmed afterwards (and added in), when the crew realised there were only a few minutes to fill. Perhaps they decided to make sure that the series ended when a team finished naturally, but after this series, they found that it would be too complicated.

That may well have been the case. Series 1 was quite short, so editing would have been a bit simpler when making it all fit together to a specific time slot. When the show's run was increased they most likely, as you say, decided that it would be too complicated.

Just been going back over Series one on Knightmare.com

I have very little memory of this first series but do remember the episode 7 room where Cedric and Folly had their insult duel.

Anyone remember the actual insults that both characters used?

Yup, go to the 'Clips' page and click on 'Folly and Cedric'. The clip's not complete, though, the actual episode continues into 'Round 2' and Folly's show-stopper of an insult.
(Edit: Yay! 100 posts!)

Here's Cedric's contributions, taken purely from memory.

"Quail... you miserable, misbegotten remnant of a recently discarded horse-droppINGGGG!!!"

"You remind me of the odour of a recently lanced gumboil."

"When the jester is no longer funny,
When his jokes can no longer earn him any money,
When wit has left the stupid clod,
They send him here, to do your job."

Cheers all. I shall have to wait until I get home to have a proper look. Can't download stuff like that at work :( Plus we have no speakers anyway.

Bloody work. Pah. Hates it.

Right, I'm off to tickle Sanjay.

Oh, and if you're interested, Folly's winning insult at the end was:
"A Maltese washer woman spurned you, your Father was a gob-less Turk, a life of crime has since deformed you, you stupid, ugly, little berk! And now to draw the final..." at which point Cedric shouted "NO! NO! NO MORE!".
