Re: have you seen the Challenge adverts?
Thinking of it just now it should have probably been British Festus! . I didn't used to like playing Bulldog or British Bulldog (can anyone remember if there was any difference), as I was always caught when I wasn't the Bulldog, then I could never seem to catch anyone either. So I always seemed to be the Bulldog. I can't remeber at the moment much more of the other games that we used to play that could be possibly classed as dangerous other than "Mercy Mercy" and "It". I think football could be another one though, as I remember walking at school and getting hit it the face by a misdirected football "ouch" . Oh yeah snowball fights was another one of those dangerous gamesback then they had no problems with British Bulldog.

Re: have you seen the Challenge adverts?
We played a game called Catch and Run at secondary school, from year 7 to year 10. Basically it was usually one year against another, and there would be about 30 people on each team and each team would have a side of 'The Cage' (caged tennis courts). One person would start the game by throwing a tennis ball at the other team over a space of about twenty metres. The other team would try and catach the ball. If they didn't catch it one person threw it back to the other side and the other side would try and catch it. If the ball was caught the person who had the ball had to run across the cage, and barge through all of the other team who were trying to kick their head in to stop them touching the side of the cage on their side with the ball.
Needless to say the game was banned cos too many kids ended up in hospital so we just ceased the game whenever a teacher came in our direction.
LOL now there's nostalgia for ya!

Lol yeah we never understood it either. It seemed fun at the time. Perhaps it was cos it was only ever the lads who caught the ball and they were all like "yeah I'm a MAN" and march forth into the seething mob.
Also I think there was a rule that you could try and chuck the ball to others on your team to try and take it to the other end, but there were more points if you got through on one run without passing.
I must look into that.
I think O.o will do better than a smiley, Picks!

What worries me is that the most intelligent people in the school were those that started the games AND actually played them too! To the bitter end!did your school happen to score low in SATS by any chance?
How odd.

LOL. We also had a game called "Pirates" that involved chasing each other all over the gym equipment at frantic pace- I think it was banned after a few people nearly lost limbs. I suppose dodgeball was pretty dangerous too- oh, that's the American term- I think our version was "Scots and Irish"- probably banned now both for being dangerous and having a name incompatible with the demands of political correctness.Lol I remember playing knightmare on the field at primary school. We got told off for emptying out someone's school bag and using it as a helmet, cos the teachers thought we would suffocate. Was a bit dangerous, but back then they had no problems with British Bulldog.

Re: have you seen the Challenge adverts?
Interesting discussion going on here. At our school, (apart from playing headers & volleys with a rock hard football far too close to windows for my accuracy), we played this game with an japanese/korean name that I can't remember well enough to try and spell. On grass, a court was made up with bags, blazers, - whatever, and something indicating the half way line.
Teams of 5 or 6 stood in their own halves, and, taking turns, teams would challenge one named person from the other side to come into their half, touch one of them and get back into their own. Once this unfortunate body was in the half, the 5/6 had to avoid being touched and slipped past, and aim to pin the trespasser to the floor. Thus, when the guy crossed the line, they'd all scatter to the back, drawing the guy further from the centre to touch someone, and then circle around him if done well. The methods of pinning were sometimes rather brutal: scoop-slam, clean sweep, sandwich... ouch. Rather painful to watch as well I think. I think I'm a psychologically battered child.
