The 'Combat Room', found in Level 2 during the first and second seasons of Knightmare.

Combat Room

By Keith McDonald

This room is styled as the scene of a battle, complete with battle axes and bloodied floor. It often hosted an encounter with a guard.

This room bore the hallmarks of combat. There are crossed axes on the walls and above the doors.

The initial design of the room was gruesome and bloodstained to show a legacy of bloodthirsty battle. This was toned down for the show, but some elements of this were still visible.

In keeping with the theme, teams would often meet a guard here, such as Cedric the Mad Monk or Gumboil. They would need magic, such as WEB or ANVIL to subdue the guard and escape.

The Combat Room, based on a handpainted scene by David Rowe, as shown on Series 1 of Knightmare (1987).

Alternatively, one team that has earned the command of Cedric are rescued by him when he defends them from Gumboil.

Dungeoneers might also find an element of their quest here, such as a segment of the Talisman.
